Livermore, CA: September 23, 2020— Quest Science Center, a nonprofit organization dedicated to connecting everyone to the value of science, today announced a partnership with Camille Schrier, Miss America 2020, the first scientist to hold the crown. The collaboration will include virtual events and educational videos. The efforts highlight Schrier’s science background and connection to the same values that served as the impetus and vision for creating the Quest Science Center.
“With degrees in biochemistry and systems biology, Camille is already inspiring the next generation of thinkers, doers, and innovators,” said Quest CEO Monya Lane. “Our organization wants to make science more accessible to everyone and show how it impacts the way we live, learn, work and play. We’ve designed this partnership to reach people of all ages and backgrounds and help keep science front and center in our community.”
”Science is really all around us,” said Schrier, echoing one of the themes that inspired the creation of Quest. “I’m thrilled to work with Quest to showcase how we can all engage and work, literally, to change the world.”
A former Miss Virginia, Schrier won the Miss America title after performing her catalytic decomposition of hydrogen peroxide experiment, also known as “elephant’s toothpaste.” The competition, dubbed “Miss America 2.0”, focuses on scholarship, social impact, talent, and empowerment, and no longer includes outward appearance. Coincidentally, the Miss America contest was held on December 19, 2019, the very same day that Quest announced its new organizational name and logo. Previously, it had been known as the Livermore Science and Society Center.
During her virtual Quest engagements, Schrier will discuss her love of science and provide advice for students, parents, and businesses on what they can do to cultivate a more diverse, STEM-oriented workforce of the future. She is also specifically interested in sharing messages related to good health, the importance of sleep, gender and inclusion.

About Quest Science Center
Quest invites participants of all ages to learn by doing as they discover how science works. Since 2018, more than 3000 students in the region have participated in outreach activities to Question, Understand and Explore Science and Technology (Quest).
Online and virtual STEM learning opportunities are available via the Quest website. In 2024, Quest plans to open its permanent science center in downtown Livermore’s new Stockmen’s Park.
