Del Valle High School Class Uses Wind Tunnel to Explore Physics

Nov 4, 2019

Our vertical wind tunnel was used October 30-31 in the conceptual physics class at Del Valle High School in Livermore to explore force balance between gravitation (downward) and aerodynamic drag (upward). Students used the first day to construct parachutes and loads of their own design and the second day to collect data on how the levitation velocity depended on the area of the parachute and the mass suspended from it. Analysis included constructing data tables and plotting to understand these forces.
