Wind Powered Sail Cars
Saturday, June 13, 10-12 pm

Design, build, and test a wind powered sail car at our next Sparks event! This hands on engineering challenge uses simple materials to create a wind powered vehicle. Experiment with different sail sizes and designs to help your car travel the farthest and fastest.

This free family activity is designed for children and adults to explore, create, and problem solve together. Drop in and see what you can build when the wind is your engine!

Parking Note: The Livermore Rodeo Parade will be taking place nearby until approximately 11:30 a.m. Additional parking is available across Railroad Avenue and in nearby parking structures.

Location: Quest Plaza at Stockmen’s Park, 29 South Livermore Ave, Livermore, CA

What is Sparks?

Sparks is Quest Science Center’s free monthly hands on activity series for families. Held at Quest Plaza in downtown Livermore, Sparks offers fun, engaging opportunities to explore science, engineering, and creativity right in the heart of the community.

Each event features a single activity that can be completed at your own pace. Drop in anytime during the event and stay as long as you’d like. Activities are self paced, open ended, and designed for ages 5 through adult. Most families spend 15 to 30 minutes exploring.

Events may be canceled or modified due to weather.

Upcoming Sparks Events

  • July 11 – Treadmill Tinkering – Design device and test them on a treadmill. Experiment with wheels, axles, and different designs to see what rolls the longest or moves in unexpected ways. Explore friction, momentum, and stability through hands-on tinkering.
  • August 8 – Wind Workshop – Design and build a parachute device, then test it in a wind tunnel to see how long it can stay aloft. Explore aerodynamics and engineering design.
