Investigating Climate Change & Respiratory Health

Driving Question

How is climate change impacting community respiratory health?

Overview

With support from the Allergy and Asthma Medical Group of the Bay Area, interns integrate temperature trends, medical data, and school absenteeism data to investigate how climate change affects respiratory health risk. The team is also exploring emerging genetic testing methods to improve local pollen identification and strengthen allergen monitoring.

Project Progression (2025-2026)

Project Spark and Community Partnership
Interns connected with the Allergy and Asthma Medical Group after presenting their climate work to the local rotary club, sparking a new collaboration to explore how climate change may intensify respiratory health risks.

Team Formation and Health Data Research
Quest proposed the emerging project to students who formed the Climate Change and Respiratory Health team. They began reviewing scientific literature, identifying relevant climate, health, and school datasets, and developing foundational research questions.

Community Impact and Public Awareness
With support from volunteer scientists, students began exploring new methods and technologies to improve allergen identification and respiratory health monitoring.
