We introduced our wind tunnel interactive exhibit at a Boy Scout fundraiser on May 1 at the Bankhead Theater in Livermore. The speakers were two astronauts, Tammy Jernigan and Jeff Wisoff, and our exhibit had a space theme consistent with the event theme and the 50th anniversary of the moon landing. Kids decorated parachutes and attached them to a mock space capsule, then watched the combination sink and float based on the wind velocity. The science lesson was about balancing the forces of gravity and aerodynamic drag when moving in air, leading to the concept of terminal velocity.
